Meet the Team: About Us

Tom Johnson

Acting Director

Tom is no stranger to Bridgton, having lived here in the 1970s when he was Executive Director of the Bridgton Historical Society. Tom spent four decades in museum curatorship and administration. Tom returned to Bridgton in 2020 after ten years as Executive Director of Portland’s Victoria Mansion.  He served as thesis advisor to graduate students at the University of New Hampshire and Harvard University. Tom oversaw the Elizabeth Bishop Perkins Fellowship in Museum Practice at the Old York Historical Society from 1979-1989.  Tom served three four-year gubernatorial appointments as Chair of the Maine Historic Preservation Commission and has been an advisor to Maine Preservation, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and other regional and national historic preservation and museum organizations.  He lives in North Bridgton’s historic Farnsworth-Decker House.

Community Engagement Coordinator

Madeleine Lane-Duigan has been the Community Engagement Coordinator of the Rufus Porter Museum since February 2022. She worked as a science teacher for most of her career, specializing in ecology and Sense of Place education, with experience in alternative and special education. Madeleine lives with her family on a small homestead, raising animals, growing gardens, and making maple syrup every spring. She is a life-long learner, avid reader, interested in food preservation, and knitting and other crafts.
