Our members are the foundation of our organization. Your support is essential to forwarding the museum's mission and vison. Your yearly membership dues help support the stewardship of Porter's achievements for the community through programing and exhibits.

Circle of Friends
Circle of Friends members help to ensure the success of the Rufus Porter Museum for years to come.
An annual commitment of $1,000 or more for 3 to 5 years, will seed innovation, bridge funding gaps and build a solid
foundation as we increase programming and outreach in the community.
Becoming a Circle of Friends member includes all the benefits of a family museum membership as well as special tours and Circle of Friends events.
10% of all Circle of Friends donations go directly into an acquisitions fund to aid in the development of the collection.

What is the difference between purchasing a membership to the museum and donating to the Annual Appeal?
Membership dues provide you with a variety of member benefits whereas gifts to the Annual Fund are donations that do not confer any membership benefits. They are unrestricted contributions that enable the Museum to close the gap between income and yearly operating expenses. Annual expenditures include staff salaries and benefits, office and museum equipment, building(s) maintenance, programs, exhibits, publications, utility and insurance costs.
The Annual Fund starts each year in November and runs until the following October. Though solicitations for the Annual Fund are sent in early November, donations can be made anytime throughout the year to this fund.

The Dorothy W. Sanborn Internship Program
We offer paid internships for graduate students or college juniors or seniors majoring or minoring in an appropriate field or have a demonstrable record of interest in a field connected to the mission of the Rufus Porter Museum. Paid internships are usually only available during the summer season. Contact for more information.
Dotti Sanborn was an accomplished writer and teacher in Bridgton, and was a mentor to her students into their adulthood. Her life was a continual mingling of her many arts talents (quilting, painting, drawing) and her background in natural history (she wrote weekly columns in several papers). Dotti also had a keen interest in local and regional history.
Our volunteers are a critical and celebrated part of our museum. We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds and skills. We particularly need friendly, helpful volunteers for the following positions:
Facilities--Maintenance of old houses is never-ending. Our Facilities Committee oversees all our maintenance and projects and always has a running "Honey Do" list.
Board members--our Board steers the direction of the museum and advises on legal, financial, marketing, planning, grant writing, fundraising, and events. Our Board members serve on committees and work on various events and projects throughout the year.
Docents--Our docents welcome our guests and provide an introduction to the fascinating Mr. Porter and give tours of our museum. We give you all the training you need. All we require is a warm and welcoming smile.
Gift shop clerks--Our gift shop clerks welcome guests, use our Square scanner system to ring up admissions, tickets, and sales, and keep the store looking its best. We will train you!
Administration--The details of running a museum are endless. Our volunteers help with mailings, thank you letters, creating labels for gift shop items, and help with a variety of tasks as needed. Great for those volunteers who want to help on projects without a year round commitment.
